Thanks to @kaniini and @Elizafox for proving that everyone from the midwest really does have incurable brain worms

@animeirl @kaniini @Elizafox i'm not actually being serious, just so you know. but, public transit which allows people to go on an adventure outside an urban environment is unlikely, so we will need alternatives, such as cars.

@kaniini @Elizafox @kaniini I know and I get that in a lot of places in this shithole country its next to impossible to not own a car, but in all seriousness, there will soon not be anywhere to "adventure outside the urban environment" thanks to cars. I'm not against using motor vehicles for mass transit, emergency services, last mile delivery, and so on, but as personal transportation, cars, along with deforestation and industrial agriculture are going to literally kill us all within the next few decades along with most other life on earth.

@animeirl @Elizafox @kaniini

i don't disagree, i would like to see much better transit where we live.

but to say that there will be nowhere to go outside the urban environment in a decade or two is silly. the climate may change, but mountains, for example, will still exist.

also agreed that deforestation and industrial agriculture are serious problems.

but I don't think EVs are that harmful. certainly less so than ICE vehicles.

@kaniini @Elizafox @kaniini @animeirl I believe her complaint is that while EVs may solve tailpipe emissions problems, they don't solve the traffic and societal problems that cars cause.

They still require high-speed roads that endanger pedestrians and cyclists, those roads still divert tax funds away from mass transit, sidewalk, and cycling lane infrastructure, and those roads also still divide communities.

@bhtooefr @kaniini @kaniini @animeirl traffic issues can be solved with competent engineering and better transit in cities, not by eliminating cars, which will mostly self-eliminate if you provide better alternatives
